Asakusa Ningen

CHF 75.00

What is it that makes Asakusa special, beyond and behind the well-trod tourist lanes? The peaceful, focused atmosphere of its authentic artisan workshops. The care for a neighbourhood spirit. Like this traditional wood-carved sign maker, or the ryokan host watering the trees lining the house facade. Exhibited in Tokushima for AIMPE 2023. (cont’d below).

Description

“Asakusa Ningen”

(cont’d from above) For the first time in the winter of 2023, while exploring my favourite corners of Asakusa, Tokyo I felt the urge to paint people. It was strange at first and it is still work in progress, but there is a common theme in the making. You can read more about that theme at A Month in Japan, Part 01 and The Art Journey, Spring 2023 Issue. This print combines two of my favourite portraits from a set painted in Tokyo. It is titled simply “Humans of Asakusa” or “Asakusa Ningen”.

This particular print was displayed in October 2023 at the world’s largest print show for works on washi, the AIMPE in Tokushima, Japan.

Fine art pigment print on Kozo washi, printed in Tokyo. A4 size paper 29.7 cm width x 21 cm height. Edition of 10. Personally stamped, signed and numbered by the artist in pencil.

The work sells as displayed on the image, without additional frame or accessories. All prints are wrapped in delicate washi and shipped plastic-free in a firm cardboard envelope. This work ships in 5-8 working days.
