White camellia

CHF 230.00

There are many types of camellia in Japan, blossoming at different seasons of the year.  From 2022 to early 2023 I painted multiple camellia species trying to find the right approach for the third composition of the “Eight Views of Kanazawa in Winter” series – “Descending Geese at Oyama Shrine’s Eastern Gate”. Description

(cont’d from above)

Multi-petaled white camellia as seen on this painting bloom later in the year, around early April in Zurich. Although they are quite different from the pink Sasanqua camellia found in Kanazawa in the winter season, the ink painting negative space technique – shironuki – used for the blossoms in this painting is the same I used to depict the bright sasanqua in the series piece. There are some golden and very faint pinkish grey wash accents in the inner/outer layers of the blossoms, respectively. These accents are visible when you look at the painting up close.

Japanese ink on Awagami bamboo paper (approximately 25 cm width x 28.0 cm height). The work is signed and stamped by the artist on the lower left corner of the composition.

The work sells as displayed on the image, without additional frame or accessories. Colours on screen will vary slightly from the actual artwork. This work ships in 5-8 working days.
