“The water’s path” is a winner in the 2026 Kyoto Writing Competition

I am happy to announce that my short story “The water’s path” is a “book prize” winner in the 2026 Kyoto Writing Competition. This is my first time entering the competition, and it is an honour and encouragement to be singled out from this year’s 114 entries.

For those of you who know my works, and understand my personal appreciation of Japan’s literature classics and their settings, you might guess just how special it feels to write about the old capital. This very short three-hundred-word story will be published in the Writers in Kyoto website later this year. Looking very much forward to posting again when that happens, and revealing some of its background here.

The Kyoto Writing Competition is an international writing competition in English language for short short stories with a clear connection to Kyoto. The full list of winners is available through the link below:
