“Early Spring at Shinobazu Pond” depicts the memory of an early spring walk near one of Tokyo’s famous views – the Benten Shrine by Shinobazu Pond. In early March, as plum blossoms fade, early blooming kawazu zakura (河津桜) add a fresh splash of colour to the scene. (cont’d below)

Description

“Early Spring at Shinobazu Pond”

(cont’d from above)

Quietly framing the dry golden tones of the wilted lotus paving the surface of the water. I am hardly the first to paint this particular season at Shinobazu pond. From Hiroshige to Hasui, spring here inspired many an artist’s brush before. In the images above a few frames try to capture the light angle from which you can see the few golden accents in the composition.

Japanese ink, watercolour and golden pigment on paper mounted on a portrait-oriented tanzaku board (7.6 cm width x 36.4 cm height). The work is signed and stamped by the artist on the lower right corner of the composition.

The work sells as displayed on the image, without additional frame or accessories. All tanzaku-sized paintings ship plastic-free in a firm cardboard envelope. This work ships in 5-8 working days.
