“Red-crested pochard, Early spring”
In 2021 I started a new painting series to capture the most common birds of Zurich as the seasons change. This series is ongoing as I expect to cover at least twelve birds and seasons, maybe more.
The red-crested pochard is one such bird. Easily spotted year-round on Lake Zurich near Enge, in the coldest season it ventures further into the Limmat river. This particular pochard was caught on the first sunny day towards the end of winter. It looked giddy in its sideways-glancing pose, perhaps judging that spring would soon be upon us.
This particular print was part of my 2021 contribution to the world’s largest print show for works on washi, the AIMPE in Tokushima, Japan.
Fine art pigment print on Unryu washi. A4 size paper 21 cm width x 29.7 cm height. Edition of 10. Personally signed and numbered by the artist in pencil.
